IL-17 and Related Cytokines: Basic Biology and Clinical Applications
The discovery of Th17 cells, the cytokines they secrete and those that induce their differentiation/expansion, has had an enormous impact on our understanding of the pathogenesis of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases. Antibodies and inhibitors that target IL-12p40, IL-23p19 and IL-17 have all been assessed in the clinic with anti-IL-12p40 already licensed for the treatment of psoriasis, while others are showing efficacy in clinical trials for Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
